Granite Web is happy to announce that we recently completed an upgrade to our shared hosting environment that we believe will dramatically improve the scalability, reliability and security of our shared hosting environment.

We’re always looking for ways to improve the quality of the shared hosting service we provide to our clients. To that end, we’ve found LiteSpeed Web Server to be a perfect enhancement to our current shared hosting service.

LiteSpeed Web Server is a commercial-grade replacement web server for the ever-popular Apache Web server we use throughout our dedicated hosting environment.

Here are the top features that led us to move to LiteSpeed:

1. LiteSpeed Web Server Is Apache Compatible LiteSpeed Web Server is compatible with commonly used Apache features, including mod_rewrite, .htaccess, and mod_security. LSWS can load Apache configuration files directly and works as a drop-in replacement for Apache with hosting control panels — replacing Apache in less than 15 minutes with zero downtime. Unlike other frontend proxy-based solutions, LSWS replaces all Apache functions, simplifying use and making the transition from Apache smooth and easy.
2. LiteSpeed Web Server Increases Performance and Stability With its streamlined event-driven architecture, LiteSpeed Web Server can serve thousands of clients concurrently with minimal memory consumption and CPU usage. LSWS’s highly optimized code serves static content faster, taking advantage of high-performance kernel syscalls, while LSAPI maximizes PHP performance. Although there are licensing costs that we have to absorb with a commercial product like LiteSpeed, we feel that the costs are insignificant versus the value of our clients to us.
